'Lovely Monster' by Francesco Calabrese
I found this short film that is labelled as a documentary style horror. I am not keen on the story line however I think that the devices that have been used within the film are extremely effective. The use of eerie underscore throughout the piece I feel helps build tension and makes me feel slightly one edge. I also think that the film was effective because it had a good well thought out script that didn't give anything away until the very end. I found myself wanting to watch the film the whole way through to find out what was wrong with the character. I also like the way the piece was filmed as they used a mixture of Shaky Cam shots/scenes as well as normal stable shots/scenes. I thought this was effective as it helped give the film a documentary style feel. I thought the use of both contrasting camera styles added interest to the piece in a whole. I feel that this film is a great example of the sort of thing my group and I were thinking of creating in terms of style and think that we should use some of the devises featured in this piece. Location Ideas
Today in class me and my group began brainstorming possible locations for our short film. We all agreed that we didn't want to film in an obvious horror/thriller location as we want our film to challenge the typical horror film. We then thought of the idea of creating the film in our local cinema. We understand this may not be a possibility as it can be hard to get permission to film in public places however we have all agreed that we will look into it more. Jasmin has agreed to try and get in contact with the cinema to try and get permission to film and we have also all agreed to go away and do some research into Dover especially focusing on the cinema.

BBC Film network advice
When briefly researching into short films, I came across this advise guide on creating a short film from the BBC. I found that various points made on the web page could come in handy to help make our film effective and interesting.

Our chosen task.
In today's lesson we made a final decision that we are going to make a short film in the style of a Horror/Thriller. We discussed doing this in the style of a Documentary however we have not decided on this yet and need to do further research into documentary style films.
